Re: How much money would I need to live in Laos for 1 year?

The average income per year for a Lao is a little more than $1,000 (source). Thus, if you can go navtive and live of rice most of the time, your $10,000 still allow you to live a good life. At least compared to the locals ;-)

Re: The old way of tubing

I wonder what the locals must think about us westerners, if this is the first impression they get of us :o A little embarrassing in my eyes. I think they just see us as aliens stuffed with cash :D And cash usually makes it easier to see through fingers with strange behaviour in poorer countries :oo...

Re: Has Laos changed over the years?

This Is The New Sex Tourism Destination: Laos This change, I don't welcome.. :( http://jclao.com/this-is-the-new-sex-tourism-destination-laos/ Overall I agree, that prostitution is not good. But if one has to look at the positive effects of it, then it does bring in more tourists, and with tourists...

Re: Vientiane Google Map Street View

It does look a lot like the Northern cities in Thailand, just a tad poorer. I noticed that if you get a bit outside the city centre of Vientiane the roads are no longer paved. Here's an example where a paved road turns into a dirt road. I'm glad I won't have to drive my car there, and especially in ...

Re: Rent house or apartment in Luang Prabang?

I think if it was me going to Luang Prabang, then - unless I was on a very tight budget - I would stay in a hotel for the first few nights. That way I would have time to look around for the best deals, and see what I get before signing and paying for any rent.

Re: Currently Working and Living in Laos

@Sabaidee: I think it must be interesting like you say, but also tough at times, to move to a country which is so different from what one is used to in Europe. I would probably never dare to make a move like that, although I dream of it sometimes, when life becomes to much of a routine :? What would...

Re: Currently Working and Living in Laos

I am currently back in Laos. I lived and worked in Lao between 2012 and 2014 and went back to the Netherlands for 9 months. I returned to Laos in March 2015 and I am searching for a job/ business now. I travelled around a lot and liked Laos and decided to go back here to stay :-) I would assume you...

I agree with you there. I wouldn't like to miss a bit of cheese once in a while.

Funny thing with the cheese, but it makes sense. At least I know the reason, if Lao people don't want to sit next to us falangs then :D
