Word of the day is Bottle.

bottle - kaaw - ແກ້ວ

You can find many interesting bottles of whiskey in Asia. One of them is Laos Snake Whiskey, which should have a very special flavour. Here is an example of such a bottle. Poor snake though :?

Word of the day is Sick.

Hospitals in Laos may not have the same standard as in the Western world. So here are some tips you may want to follow before going to avoid getting sick: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destination ... /none/laos

Sorry, correct me if I am wrong. :D To me pronouncing the word "jep" in English means "hurt." For "sick" it would be "kite" with a silent "t".

Word of the day is Sorry (like in "I'm sorry")

Sorry - khɔ̌ɔ thòot - ຂໍ ໂທດ

On the topic of apologizing, did you know that at Lao New Year, it is time to apologize to the people one may have done wrong in the year that went by. Especially children are encouraged to apologize to elders.

Word of the day is Salty.

Salty - khem - ເຄັມ

Example of use: ອາຫານ ເຄັມ (aahaan khem) = the food is salty

Combining the words 'salty' and 'laos' in a google search gave me a link to this documentary about working in a Laos salt mine: Sweet Salty Lao. Maybe worth watching?

There are plenty of beautifully decorated door panels in temples arounds Laos. Here is one from what I believe is called Wat Ong Teu, showing Sinxay fighting Nak Valoonarat.

Word of the day is Soap opera.

Soap opera - lakorn - ລະຄອນ

Soap operas are very popular in all of South East Asia, and are usually shown in primetime on several tv channels. Most soap operas are based on romantic novels in one way or the other. In my personal view lakorns can be very entertaining to watch, and at the same time they can be a good method to practice Lao listening skills, as what you hear is everyday Lao pronounced clearly

Word of the day is Breakfast.

breakfast - khao saw - ເຂົ້າເຊົ້າ

khao means food (literally it means rice) and saw may be translated into 'morning hours'.

Next time you visit Laos, start your day off just like the locals with a good noodle soup and some Chinese doughnuts ;)
