Re: Translation from English to Lao

I was told by a good friend of mine - who speaks Lao better than I do, that it would be fair to translate "zip line" into ສາຍໄຟຟ້າ, which reads "saayfaifaa". ສາຍ (saay) meaning cable/cord and (ໄຟຟ້າ) faifaa meaning electricity.

Re: Well, hello there...

Hi Dave Greetings from Vientiane  You should definitely come to Laos when you get enough of staying in Thailand. You won't be disappointed! I'm sure you will enjoy the laid back style here... ;) Thanks Lucas, I'm sure I would enjoy it too :D What is living in Vientiane like? Would you recomme...

Re: Can I rent your car?

If you are just looking to rent, the easiest may be to check out a car rental service in Laos. How about this one for example:

http://www.lao-carcenter.com/theme/index.php (I don't know this place personally).

Re: Types of visas?

Oh, and I'm surprised to see there is a visa for those having family in Laos. But it's called a "Visit visa", where I would assume it is more like a permanent visa (to stay and provide for Lao family)? Well, according to this visa information from the Lao Embassy in Belgium, the Visit visa only all...

Re: What are the conditions to marry a Lao woman?

The marriage law implemented in 2012 means, that foreigners who want to marry a Lao woman, must be approved by authorities first (this is to fight human trafficking). You will have to stay in Laos for at least three months while you wait for the authorities to investigate your submitted documents. I...

Re: Writing a Learn Lao language book

It's going fine, thanks, but it's also a lot harder than I imagined to write a book like this. I plan on a total of 12 chapters, and would say I'm about half-way through (draft). When done writing, I need English and Lao proofreading, dtp, audio, images and lots of other things :D But again, it's go...

Re: What about a simple baguette - Lao style?

Yes...nothing like a baguette to make it through the day :)

The baguettes/sandwiches in Laos have a lot more taste than the ones I've tasted in Europe. And they will set you back only two dollars. Definetely a must-try, when you come to Laos.

Re: Hi Everyone

As johnbkk wrote, there are plenty of cheap guest houses all over Laos, which are within your budget. Finding a job for an English native speaking person like yourself should not be that difficult, but you still have the hassle of getting a work permit/visa (which may not be as easy as in Thailand)....

Re: How about a taste of snake?

I did taste snake once. It tastes more like fish than chicken actually. The taste might be different from snake to snake though ;)
